I Just Taught Chat GPT to write a tune

March 29, 2023 //  by HurleyPiano

I just taught ChatGPT to write a melody. First I asked Chat to write a tune. All I got were catchy pop lyrics. I corrected Chat with “you wrote lyrics, I wanted a tune”.
Chat: I apologize for the confusion. As an AI language model, I’m not able to create audio files, but I can certainly suggest some general guidelines for creating a pop tune.
To start with, a pop tune typically has a catchy melody with a simple and repetitive structure. The melody should be easy to sing along to and memorable, and it should be supported by a rhythmic and harmonious arrangement of instruments.
A common structure for a pop tune is verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus. The verse typically sets up the story or theme of the song, while the chorus delivers the main hook or message of the song. The bridge provides a contrasting section, which adds variety to the song and helps build anticipation for the final chorus.
When it comes to creating the tune, you can start by experimenting with different chord progressions and melodies. Try to come up with a memorable hook or chorus first, and then build the rest of the song around that. You can also experiment with different rhythms, instrumentation, and production techniques to create a unique sound.
Remember, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to creating a pop tune. The key is to be creative, and to focus on crafting a melody and arrangement that will connect with your audience and leave them humming your tune long after they’ve heard it.

Hurley: Let me help you. Use C4 as middle C. D4 as the D above middle C and so on. So Mary Had A Little Lamb would be E4 D4 C4 D4 E4 E4 E4, D4 D4 D4, E4 G4 G4, E4 D4 C4 D4 E4 E4 E4

Chat: Thank you for the help! Here’s a pop tune melody in the key of C major that you might enjoy:
Verse:
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
Chorus:
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
G4 G4 A4 A4 C5 C5 B4 B4
A4 A4 G4 G4 F4 F4 E4 E4
Verse:
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
C4 C4 E4 E4 G4 G4 A4 G4
Chorus:
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
G4 G4 A4 A4 C5 C5 B4 B4
A4 A4 G4 G4 F4 F4 E4 E4
Bridge:
D4 D4 E4 E4 F4 F4 G4 G4
G4 G4 F4 F4 E4 E4 D4 D4
D4 D4 E4 E4 F4 F4 G4 G4
G4 G4 F4 F4 E4 E4 D4 D4
Chorus:
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
F4 F4 G4 G4 A4 A4 G4 F4
G4 G4 A4 A4 C5 C5 B4 B4
A4 A4 G4 G4 F4 F4 E4 E4
I hope this helps you to get started on creating a pop tune! Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and be creative.

Hurley: Now write lyrics to that tune:
